Seeing these three rewards, Zhao Chen's eyes could not help lighting up.
To speak exactly, it should be "two" rewards.
This thing, the T5 Super-Soldier Serum, Zhao Chen could not know better.
For before now this fellow had put him through it four times over; and at the fourth, above all, life had been worse than death.
Even now, at the recollection of it, Zhao Chen felt his own bones ache, and the fright of it was in him still.
But the good of the thing goes without saying; it had strengthened Zhao Chen a very great deal.
Zhao Chen had once had his own body examined in secret, and the result was that several indices exceeded the range within which intelligent beings are examined at all — even the projection of his lifespan ran above 500 years!
This was an outright remaking of his own genes.
Small wonder he could tear a combat mecha apart with his hands, and punch through an interstellar warship's armor!
If the T4 Super-Soldier Serum was as strong as this, then what would a T5-grade Super-Soldier Serum be?
Could it be that he might truly turn into a superman?
Bearing out the saying that at the end of science lies the occult?
Zhao Chen gulped, and for the present held back the notion of injecting this T5 Super-Soldier Serum; he was on the bridge now, and it would not do.
He remembered still the scene when he had injected the T4 Super-Soldier Serum; it was hard to imagine what a state he would be in once this T5 Super-Soldier Serum was injected.
Zhao Chen looked to the other reward.
Though they were two things, Zhao Chen knew this was in fact one reward.
The T5 Dragon Emperor Interstellar Command Ship and the T5 Dragon-Emperor Matrix Core.
Things of this kind Zhao Chen had seen before.
Precisely this flagship he now stood aboard.
The T5 Hades-class Interstellar Dreadnought!
And its Hades Matrix Module at the time; the two were not quite alike in name, but they should be things of the same kind.
Zhao Chen looked over the data on this T5 Dragon Emperor Interstellar Command Ship.
As its name says, this was an interstellar command ship of very strong specialization.
Its combat capacity fell short even of the T5 Chaos-Knight and the T5 Lightning-Wraith.
But its use, for a vast interstellar fleet, was of the first importance.
If the T5 Hades-class Interstellar Dreadnought gave the Owl Dragon Legion a war-spear, then this T5 Dragon Emperor Interstellar Command Ship gave the Owl Dragon Legion a brain.
An interstellar command ship, as the name says, belongs to a battlefield auxiliary type, and its use is to direct a campaign.
Such a ship is generally fitted with an exceedingly strong communication network, radar reconnaissance, counter-radar reconnaissance, anti-stealth radar… and at the same time an exceedingly strong capacity for data computation, able in a short time to make intelligent analysis upon the field data it receives.
Giving the field commander the best options, and forming the best system of command.
This function the Owl Dragon Legion had possessed all along.
But in most cases it was several flagships working together.
In the present campaign, for instance, the command system was borne by Charlotte's flagship, a T4 Blue-Eyes White Dragon-class Heavy Interstellar Armored Battleship, and Zhao Chen's flagship, the T5 Hades-class Interstellar Dreadnought.
The two ships worked together to direct this campaign.
Though the effect was tolerable, it naturally fell far short of an interstellar command ship of stronger specialization.
But all along, though this type of interstellar command ship existed, none of the great powers had set much store by it.
Because its effect in real combat was poor and its build cost exceedingly high, it was better to place the command system aboard a flagship.
And with a great many commanders besides who, like Charlotte, love to ride a combat-type interstellar warship into the charge, the interstellar command ship naturally found no favor, and became an unfashionable type.
But its value had existed all along.
Zhao Chen had always believed the saying: give the professional work to professionals.
At present the Owl Dragon Legion was expanding its fleets fast; with a few thousand, or ten or twenty thousand interstellar warships as before, a command system of several flagships working together would serve.
But what of the future, when the Owl Dragon Legion has 100,000 interstellar warships, or 200,000?
Even the T5 Hades-class Interstellar Dreadnought could not bear so vast a system of command.
One reason the Owl Dragon Legion could make the fastest response upon the field was that its fleets were few in number and its command framework simple; once an order was passed down, with the quality of the Owl Dragon's officers besides, the fastest response could be made.
But as fleet numbers grow greater and greater, this advantage of high efficiency will by degrees be lost in future.
Before this campaign, Lilith and Charlotte had raised with Zhao Chen the problem of the field command system.
And now, was this not the solution delivered to him?
Zhao Chen was in high spirits.
He glanced at the other System missions.
That annual mission whose reward was the "T5 Galaxy-class Large Interstellar Industrial Base technical blueprint" was in the main a settled thing; he need only wait a few days more.
Quarterly mission
Task: number of T5-grade interstellar warships in service.
In-service number reaching 3 ships: 100 task points may be claimed.
In-service number reaching 5 ships: 200 task points may be claimed.
In-service number reaching 8 ships: 300 task points may be claimed.
In-service number reaching 10 ships: 400 task points may be claimed.
For every ship above ten in service, a further 100 task points may be claimed.
(Note: the above rewards may be claimed cumulatively.)
This mission Zhao Chen had completed as well.
The number of T5 interstellar warships now in service in his Owl Dragon Legion had already reached 14 — four above the mark.
Which meant that once the mission's time came, 1,400 task points could be claimed — which relieved exactly the want of System task points that had been pressing on Zhao Chen.
Zhao Chen opened his eyes with a heart full of gladness, and rose to his feet.
"Commander." The bodyguard leopard-woman beside him, seeing the Commander stir, asked at once what he required.
"I am somewhat tired; I shall go back to my quarters and rest a while." Zhao Chen wore the look of one very tired. "You need not follow me; stay here. Lilith is not here?"
Zhao Chen noticed that Lilith was not upon the bridge.
"Secretary Lilith went to give certain instructions to the officers in charge of the Demon Race prisoners of war; she should be at the hangar where the shuttles berth now," said the leopard-woman.
"Then when Lilith comes back by and by, tell her I have gone to rest," Zhao Chen charged her.
And turned and walked out of the bridge.
The bodyguard leopard-woman did not follow either, for this was the T5 Hades-class Interstellar Dreadnought, and here the Commander was safest of all.
Leaving the bridge, Zhao Chen stood upon the hovering elevator, and did not input an address at once.
He raised a hand and took out of the System that tube of blood-red T5 Super-Soldier Serum.
By the way of it before, the injection would assuredly be most painful; last time he had smashed his own quarters to pieces.
Were he to inject this T5 Super-Soldier Serum in his quarters, would he not pull the whole room down outright?
Zhao Chen thought of a good place, and spoke.
"To No.1 training ground."
